Socially conscious studio Yard B are specialists in film, animation and design. Tackling projects of all shapes and sizes, they cover it all from script to screen. All the while, doing it in the right — through sustainable production that minimises environmental impact.
A Clean Slate
Yard B recently rebranded and as such their website was no longer reflective of the personality and working style of the studio. So we went back to the drawing board and focussed on crafting a super clean, modern, and professional portfolio site that showcased their ability in the industry while bringing their unique ethos to the fore.
Squarespace Meets Lottie
By building the site directly in Squarespace we were able to keep production time low, while ensuring everything we designed would work across all breakpoints and within the constraints of the platform.
We were also keen to bring life to the website, extending Squarespace’s capabilities beyond what’s available out of the box. Enter Lottie, not directly supported by Squarespace, we deployed custom coded blocks to allow us to add animation and personality to the site, through an animated logo, custom hover states, and introducing light boxes to show the motion work without the rest of the content distracting viewers. Maximum impact, minimal overhead.
Working with Nick at Background on our new website has been a breeze from start to finish. He listened carefully to what we were after, presented clear ideas for the direction we could take, then came back with a near perfect first draft. He was also incredibly responsive with revisions and support. Being a creative company ourselves we particularly enjoyed how we were able to collaborate and try new things with our site, whilst also giving us the confidence to manage it ourselves.
